COMMON SYMPTOM PICTURES FOR THE FLU

We are all familiar with the signs and symptoms of the flu which is often epidemic in nature and attributed to a viral infection. Influenza usually begins with an upper respiratory ailment and progresses to aches and pains in muscles and joints, often accompanied by a high fever. Should you come in contact with someone who has the flu take Gelsemium 30C, 3 doses over a 24 hour period.

Once the flu has set in, the remedies listed below are among those that may prove most useful. They may be given in the 30 C potency every 4 to 6 hours.

Influenza may lead to seriously complicated conditions, such as pneumonia. In any case which does not improve and is getting worse, a physician should be contacted.

Arsenicum:
Symptoms are characterized by extreme restlessness with anxiety, burning pains relieved by heat, chilliness, exhaustion and weakness, and fear with a pervading sense of hopelessness. Strong, intense thirst; drinks often but sips a little at a time; cold water often disagrees.

Belladonna: The person, often a child, has a red, hot face and glassy eyes. Violent onset can occur after exposure to becoming chilled. Dryness is a hallmark of the remedy, except for perspiration on covered parts of the body. Belladonna is used in the early stages of inflammatory disease.

Gelsemium:
Characterized by “droopy, drowsy, dizzy, dumb” symptoms. You may feel tired and weak with a heavy sensation. Symptoms are slow in onset, preceded by weakness. There is little appetite or thirst. Symptoms are worse around 10 am.

Bryonia: Aggravation from movement is the hallmark of this remedy. All symptoms are worsened by motion. The patient is irritable and inclined to angry outbursts if disturbed. He us thirsty for cold drinks; feels worse in warm rooms, from touch, warmth, sitting up. Better from cool air, eating cold things, lying on painful side, rest.

Eupatorium:
Symptoms include severe, deep bone pain and chills, especially in the morning. Runny nose, sneezing and red eyes prior to the body aches. This remedy is also very useful for pain experiences by a broken bone.

Rhus Tox: The patient feels restless and chilly. Aches and pains while lying still, worse in the morning but better from continues motion. Dry mouth, sore throat, thirsty for small sips of water. Worse in cold, damp air.

Nux Vomica: The person feels chilly and is worse in cold weather. He or she has severe chills with a fever and cannot warm themselves. Digestive symptoms such as heartburn, nausea, bloating, most often accompany any other symptoms, even respiratory symptoms. Nux seems to be the remedy, and is most often considered for the “hangover flu”. This condition feels like a hangover and is preceded by fatigue for several days, followed by a headache, dizziness and nausea.

Fact: In the deadly flu of 1918, which killed 20 million people worldwide and more than 500,000 in the U.S., homeopaths had only a death rate of 1.05 compared to a 30% fatality for those receiving conventional treatment.
